EXCERPT: The view that God created man over millions of years by guiding evolution is contrary to the views held by Jesus and all the Bible prophets and writers. Evolution makes the Bible’s core message null and void. It teaches that man never was a sinless being, that man therefore never fell into sin, that sin is simply our present level of development and that we, consequently, do not need to be saved from it through the death of the Savior or by His return to this earth. And if man never was sinless, then it would be illogical to think that he will ever become sinless, which argues against the Bible’s message of an end-time restoration of all things. Evolution implies that man will continue to develop, but will always remain a sinner.
Discussion: Scientists are confirmed in their view of evolution over millions of years. Many Christians, therefore, hold the view that God created man over millions of years by guiding evolution. They view the creation account as a symbolic description of how life on earth began. A Christian holding this view must still accept the Bible as inspired, and therefore must conclude that the meaning of the symbolism of six days of creation and one day of rest was to explain the seventh day as an integral part of life on earth, confirming the conclusion that the seventh day will always remain part of life of all peoples and of all times.
However, the view that God created man over millions of years by guiding evolution, by and large, rejects the Bible. Firstly, Jesus and all the Bible prophets and writers accepted the creation account (MatT 19:4; Acts 17:26; 1 Cor 11:8-12). Secondly, if man was created through slow development over millions of years, then the Bible’s core message is made null and void. The Bible’s core message is:
-
-
- That man was created sinless, but later was separated from God through the corrupting power of sin: “Through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners” (Rom 5:19).
– - That sin is a life-threatening disease from which few will escape. “The wages of sin is death” (Rom 6:23). “If you are living according to the flesh, you must die” (Rom 8:13). Sin is aggression against God, in whom alone is life (John 5:26). To reject God is therefore to reject the only possibility of eternal life.
– - That God became a human being and “gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age” (Gal 1:4).
– - That man’s relationship with His Creator will be restored (Rev 21:3) and that man will once again be sinless. “Nothing unclean, and no one who practices abomination and lying, shall ever come into” (Rev 21:27) “the holy city, Jerusalem” (Rev 21:10), which will be on the “new earth” (Rev 21:1).
- That man was created sinless, but later was separated from God through the corrupting power of sin: “Through the one man’s disobedience the many were made sinners” (Rom 5:19).
-
These ideas are all made null and void by evolution, for if man was created through slow development over millions of years:
-
-
- Then man never was without sin, but man and his predecessors always killed to eat, and on the basis of the survival of the fittest, men always killed one another.
– - Then sin is simply our present level of development; not a life-threatening disease.
– - Then also there is no need for a savior, for if man developed slowly over millions of years, and consequently never was a sinless being, then there is nothing that man needs to be rescued from.
– - Then man will never be restored to a sinless condition. If man slowly developed over millions of years, then there is no original sinless condition to which man can be restored. Man may continue to develop, but will always remain a sinner.
- Then man never was without sin, but man and his predecessors always killed to eat, and on the basis of the survival of the fittest, men always killed one another.

There are many things in the Bible that we do not understand, but there is sufficient proof of the reliability of the Bible for the person that wants to believe. The deeper that one delves into the Bible, the more beauty one sees. The stories of the miracles seem credible and believable. The messages of the writers of the Bible, separated by thousands of years, are consistent with one another. Such things provide sufficient proof to allow us to accept the things that we do not understand. “Has not God made foolish the wisdom of the world?” (1 Cor 1:20)
