      • 13:1-2 – The beasts is a successor of the four empires of Daniel 7. It receives its power from the Roman Empire.
      • 13:3-4 – The fatal wound is the sixth head of the beast. The wound heals to form the seventh head.
      • The beast is a continuation of the Antichrist in the Book of Daniel, which is the church of the middle ages

REVELATION – SEVEN PLAGUES

      • Introduction to the seven plagues of Revelation – Revelation 15 – The plagues are preceded by Christian on Christian persecution.

First four plagues

      • Non-specific – Revelation has seven seals, seven trumpets, and seven bowl plagues. The first four of each series are general and should not be individually interpreted.
      • The plagues fall on the people with the mark of the beast. The purpose of the plagues is to show that they will not repent.

Fifth Plague

      • The throne of the beast is Christian religious authority.
      • The brightness of the mighty angel of Revelation 18 causes the darkness of the fifth plague.
      • The first four plagues erode the beast’s authority. In the fifth plague, the mighty angel finally destroys it.

Sixth Plague

Seventh Plague

Purpose of the Plagues

      • The purpose of the plagues is not to punish but to show that the people with the mark of the beast, although they appear to be Christians, are hardened beyond repentance.
      • This is to show that God judges perfectly. This is necessary because Satan accused God of arbitrary and severe judgment.

DANIEL 9

EARLY CHURCH HISTORY

      • Jerusalem Phase – The Church started with the outpouring of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost, but for a number of years it consisted of Jews only and existed as a sect of Judaism.
      • Judea and Samaria Phase – When Israel persecuted the church, Christians fled to Judea and Samaria, taking the gospel message with them.
      • Gentile Dispute Phase – When the First Gentiles were accepted into the church, a dispute arose about whether they must comply with the Law.
      • Separation Phase – The Acts 15 Church Council agreed that Gentiles are not subject to the Law of Moses, but Jewish Christians continued to live according to the Law and customs.
      • Theological Implications – God gave Paul the task to get the church out of Judaism.

ROMANS

      • Romans 1 – God will not override human freedom. He gives evidence of “His invisible attributes.” We must choose.
      • Romans 2 – It is not the hearers of the Law who are just before God.  “The doers of the Law will be justified.”
      • Romans 3:1-8 – Both Romans 3:1-8 and Romans 9-11 deal with the causes and consequences of Israel’s rejection of Christ.
      • Romans 9 and 11This God elected a remnant from Israel but included believing Gentiles into this chosen remnant. This is the “Israel” in the book of Revelation.
      • All Israel will be saved. – This is a summary of the previous article.
      • Election in Romans 9-11Romans 9-11 contains many strong election statements, but this is an election to a mission, not to salvation.
